The Jefferson Parish School Board recently passed 2024: The Future Our Kids Deserve. This plan provides our district with the guide we will use to provide our students with the education they deserve. We have set ambitious goals for positive student outcomes and drafted a framework to get us there. To achieve our goals, we must prioritize access, equity, and opportunity for our students and families.
As part of the plan, we committed to expanding the PK-8 model of school configuration. More of our students will be able to stay in same school from the time they enter school through their 8th grade year. Presently, our PK-8 schools have higher attendance rates and school performance scores than our traditional 6-8 middle schools. We also believe this will allow us to better serve families – many families currently leave our system after the 5th grade year.
Our school board will consider a proposal for advancing the PK-8 model at its public hearing and special session meeting on March 13 at 5 p.m. at the JP Schools Administration Building at 501 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey. Click here to view the agenda.
We propose several of our schools shifting to this model for the upcoming year. To see which schools are impacted and to learn more about the proposal, click here to view the presentation. If your child is impacted, you should have received a message through our school messaging system and a letter mailed to your home.
During the public hearing and special session, the school board will consider a redistricting proposal for Alexander Elementary, Audubon Elementary, Bissonet Elementary, Woods Elementary, Roosevelt Middle, T.H. Harris Middle, Adams Middle, Live Oak Elementary, Strehle Elementary, Cherbonnier Elementary, Miller Wall Elementary, Ford Middle, Worley Middle, Marrero Middle, Truman Middle, and Ellender Elementary. The public hearing will begin at 5 p.m. at the JP Schools Administration Building at 501 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey. The proposed attendance zone maps can be viewed below.
