One of the many talented students in the Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS) will soon have her work seen by leaders in the district and from across the state.

East Jefferson High freshman Tailee Melara is the winner of the annual JPPSS Finance Department art contest. Melara’s artwork will appear on the cover of the school system’s annual financial report. Melara also won $100 for herself and $100 for her school’s art program as part of the district-wide contests.

“Taille2016_finance_book_cover_a is such a hard worker and a perfectionist when it comes to her art,” said East Jefferson High Talent Art instructor Sandra Toups. “She approaches a new project thoughtfully, and always puts forth 100% effort. She’s a very talented young lady, and I have enjoyed working with her this semester.”

This is the second year of the Finance Department’s art contest, which is open to students from all schools and grade levels. Students were asked to submit a piece that portrays both Jefferson Parish and education.
