Dear JP Schools Family,
A strong public school system has the transformational power to not only move kids forward, but to lift up an entire community. Today the citizens of Jefferson Parish displayed their confidence in our direction – and in you – by approving a millage increase to provide pay raises for teachers and support staff.
The community came together to get out the vote. They gave us their investment and their trust. In return, we’re going to give them a school system that serves its children like never before. Over the past year, I’ve heard many employees say that they felt a surge of momentum in Jefferson Parish Schools. We’ve implemented a number of changes and rolled out a bold strategic plan. Tonight’s vote is validation of our new direction and proves that our momentum is being felt well beyond our school walls.
Thank you for your help informing the public about this important vote. Our plan is for the pay raises to go into effect for the upcoming school year. I also want to thank the community for supporting our plan and the many groups who gave their endorsement.
Over the last two months, I gave nearly 60 public speeches and presentations about the importance of this millage. It’s been my honor sharing your story with Jefferson Parish residents. Nothing impacts student learning like an effective teacher armed with a robust curriculum, and our support staff are the backbone of our system. Something special is happening in JP Schools. I’m excited to take this journey with you.
