Due to the threat of severe weather, all Jefferson Parish Schools will operate on a half-day schedule Thursday, April 18, 2019. The National Weather Service and local meteorologists are forecasting an enhanced risk of dangerous winds and strong tornadic activity Thursday, specifically around regular dismissal time for our schools. Thursday’s storm also brings the heightened possibility of power outages for a number of our schools.

“The safety of our students and staff is our top responsibility,” said JP Schools Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley. “We have been in close contact with the National Weather Service and local weather professionals, and they have told us the system that will move through our area Thursday will be severe and very unpredictable. The last thing we want to do is risk putting our students, families, and employees on the road when this system could likely be at its strongest. We’re making the best decision we can, with the information available, and with the safety of our students and staff in mind.”
Buses will still run and school meals will still be served. All after-school activities have also been canceled for April 18. You can keep up with the latest district news at jpschools.org, through the district’s mobile app, and through social media on Facebook and Twitter.
