One of the ways Dr. Brumley celebrated educators for Teacher Appreciation Week was by spending a lion’s share of his time in our schools thanking them face-to-face. Dr. Brumley held Discovery Days this week at Riviere Elementary, Cherbonnier-Rillieux Elementary, and Gretna Middle. These day-long events include learning walks around the school and into classrooms as well as a meeting with the faculty. These engaging sessions with teachers are part of the strategies outlined in his plan, Love to Learn; Learn to Lead: A 100-Day Investment for a Stronger JPPSS.
RECENT UPDATES
Here is what Dr. Brumley was up to this week as he works towards completing his plan and helping build a strong foundation for the future of our students.
- Held Discovery Days at Riviere Elementary, Cherbonnier-Rillieux Elementary, and Gretna Middle. Discovery Days include a coffee chat at a nearby establishment in the morning, a one-on-one conversation with that district’s board member, a learning walk around the school, a one-on-one conversation with the principal, lunch with students, a faculty meeting, and a community town hall that evening. - Interviewed for a redesign grant for a Transformation Zone that will provide extra support and resources for our highest-need schools as part of an equity agenda
- Met with a language acquisition specialist from the Louisiana Department of Education
- Attended the ESL awards program at Grace King High and the Grace King High “Senior Walk” at Meisler Middle
- Attended the Jefferson Dollars for Scholars Awards Ceremony and Reception and the JDFS fundraiser
- Attended the Brown Foundation meet and greet
- Attended the Bureau of Governmental Research 2018 Excellence in Government Research ceremony where JPPSS Career and Technical Education Coordinator Lucy Lejeune was recognized
- Attended the dedication ceremony for Ray St. Pierre Academy for Advanced Studies (formerly Marrero Academy)
- Met with the SEIU
- Scheduled his first Twitter chat for Thursday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m.
