Valerie Burton, West Jefferson High School’s Computer Applications Instructor, was deemed Louisiana’s Overall State Educator of the Year by the Louisiana’s Association of Computer Using Educators (LACUE). Burton earned the top honor at the LACUE conference held in November in New Orleans. Burton was first named LACUE’s Region One Secondary Educator of the Year before receiving the accolade as top educator.

Burton’s philosophy of education is “to provide an inquiry-based atmosphere (by using) project based learning and technology to make learning enjoyable for all.” Her students receive various career ready certifications and 21st learning skills.

Just some of Burton’s affiliations include serving as an Intel Technology Trainer and involvement with the Discovery Educators Network’s STAR Teacher and Leadership Council. Congratulations to Jefferson Parish teacher Valerie Burton, LACUE’s Overall State Educator of the Year.
